Pai is an old city. Original ethnic population in Pai is Prai which is a family of ethnic use language Astro-Asiatic. As evidence , has ruins of chapel and stupa is scatter throughout the top of mountain , upland hillside , Pai river lowland area. Tham Phi Man (Tham ,English is cave ) , Baan Huay Hok, Tambon Wieng Nua is far from Baan Huay Hok to the west about 1,500 metres . In this cave is found carcass bone.

Pai City is between the route on highway number 1095 of the chiangmai and Maehongson. Pai is Amphoe in Maehongson which surround with the high mountain of Thailand - Burma borderland.
